GO-To is Shrewsbury's drop-in community computer and I.T. help clinic
Located in The Roy Fletcher Centre, we provide:
8 Workstations with superfast fibre-optic internet connection (available for hire for training)
Volunteers offering one-to-one assistance or group training
Dedicated drop-in sessions (open to all) on MONDAYS, WEDNESDAYS and THURSDAYS

How Can We Help You?

At FIX I.T. you will be shown how to solve your own computer problems. We will not grab your mouse or push you away from your keyboard. Wherever possible we will walk you through fixing your own problems. We believe that this is the best way to help you.
 
GO-To FIX I.T. is a service open to everyone and particularly welcomes those involved with voluntary or community work.

Computers

  • ​Would you like to upgrade your Microsoft Windows operating system but don’t know how?
  • Do you want to learn how to keep or safely transfer your files and data?
  • Do you suspect that your computer has viruses or advert-generating software? We’ll show you how to safely clean up your machine and how to avoid such issues
  • Does your computer not switch on? Is it making a worrying noise? Have you seen the ‘blue screen of death’? We’ll get out our screwdrivers and find your problem
  • Is your laptop battery on its last legs or doesn't charge any more? We'll identify the dying component and help you order and fit a replacement
  • Are you locked-out of an account or can't configure email settings properly? We'll help you to recover or reset your passwords
  • Do you feel your computer is running painfully slowly? We are the experts at getting your computer running just like it did when you bought it
  • Are you unable to connect to the internet or do you have difficulty with wireless connections? We'll reconnect you to the outside world and advise you about potential issues you may have back at home
  • Do you just want a so-called 'service-check'? We'll get everything running quickly, efficiently, and without any maintenance or service charges that would be applied by a computer store

(Smart) Phones

​Are you having trouble sending or receiving email? Do you have a new smartphone and want to configure the settings or transfer information from your old phone?

Printers

  • ​Setting-up printers is notoriously difficult but often can only be done in situation at your own premises
  • If however, you bring both your computer and printer together, we will configure them correctly and provide you with brief instructions about how to make any minor wireless settings that might need adjusting on your return home
  • Ink cartridge printers that have paper-feed problems are not normally worth trying to fix. The replacement mechanisms cannot be obtained and a new cartridge printers can be typically bought for £25-£45 but the cost of the replacement cartridges is an important factor to consider purchasing

Tablets

  • ​If you are thinking of buying a tablet we can help you make the right choice. Have you bought a tablet but would like to know how to synchronise your files and emails across your gadgets? We’ll get you up and running

Cameras

  • ​Do you have difficulties transferring photos from your camera to your computer? We’ll show you the options. Do you have questions about photo editing? We’ll demonstrate

Gadgets

  • ​If you have a gadget that you don’t know how to use or are struggling connecting it to something it is meant to connect to, then bring it in. The more obscure it is, the more you will spice up our day
