Francis is a volunteer at a partner charity so we brought in our iPad guru Gavin on special assignment to help out. Not only did Gavin unlock the stubborn iPad, he spent the entire morning showing Francis ways to get more out of her trusted tablet, its apps and its functionality. Thanks Gavin.

Norman brought his Apple MacBook with concerns about his email attachments being unreadable.5/31/2018 Norman had been attaching unpopular formats of word processing and spreadsheet files. We advised Norman about the more popular formats, the significance of the three-letter file extensions and the common differences between Apple and Windows formats.

Volunteer Brandon provided all the answers. He showed Fay how to reposition and reshape the Windows 10 taskbar to her heart's content. Together they installed Fay's new wireless mouse and to make previewing emails easier, Brandon introduced Fay to the Chrome browser.

Volunteers James and Brandon discovered that physical damage to the tablet had broken the volume control button but found a way how to make the tablet 'happy' by manipulating the buttons. This provided Anita with a 'work-around' method, meaning that she didn't have to buy a replacement tablet.

As Eileen was within a month's grace period of the purchase, we were able to help her reclaim her £80 by contacting the software manufacturer. We were pleased that Eileen's money would be refunded, that she no longer needed to worry about automatic annual subscriptions and that she was happy to use the free anti-virus software provided by Microsoft.

Heather wanted to be sure to order the right part. Laptop power supply units are varied and unique and it is essential to get the correct voltage and adapter head to fit your laptop. Careful attention needs to be paid to the model of the laptop and other replacement part numbers.

We helped Alice and Jim delete their unwanted user profiles and manage the settings on the ones that were required. After much investigation and discussion about Microsoft's 'Family Safety' options Alice and Jim decided not to use this particular service. Although censorship of the internet was a controversial topic amongst those present, methods of applying filters at the router were suggested as a more effective alternative as such measures would extend to mobile phones, tablets and other gadgets used within the family's wi-fi hotspot.

Volunteer Mike S inspected the video file and couldn't open it either. The file was not a standard video format and without further information from the provider or the required software to playback the custom file, we were unable to proceed. We advised Pauline to contact the provider of the file for more details.
